1969/1999 STANCE SOCKS FALL 2018
STANCE
69.99
Whether it’s a man stamping a footprint on the moon for the first time or pressing a digital fingerprint into the internet, both 1969 & 1999 ended their decade with a bang while also leading a new decade into boundless, mysterious worlds and also a whole-lot of the the unknown. But what’s wrong with a little mystery? The uncertainty makes it fun.
Seek the unknown.
Thought Process
Coming up with a fresh idea while taking sources from 2 saturated eras was hard, but I looked for key details from the 2 eras to narrow things down. It was especially hard finding the style of 1969 and 1999. Does it relate more to the 60/90s, or 70/00s?
Man < Mankind
The design for this color way takes Neil Armstrong’s “one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” quote in a literal approach. On the sole of the sock, the word “man” is small, while the word “kind” is giant, so wearers can literally be taking small steps for man while taking giant steps for mankind.
The design element on the top of the sock is the same as the bottom, but is the sound frequencies of the Armstrong’s quote and also ties to the popularity of scratch DJ’ing in the 90’s.
Diskette
A floppy disc was chosen as a key design element because it was played a significant role in both eras. The first floppy discs were created around 1969 but the last floppy discs were made in 1999 when a new computer called the iMac was created and was the first computer to not run floppy discs.

Packaging
The packaging of both socks are inspired by the packaging of astronaut food, but still having the same feel as a normal Stance package.
